Apple released an update for the iPhone’s software development kit yesterday that will enable app builders to offer VoIP services. VoIP providers fring and iCall announced this week that their apps for the iPhone 3G are ready to run in 3G mode on AT&T's network. Moreover, Skype recently indicated that it will soon offer a 3G-capable version of its software for Apple's iPhone 3G.

Several companies offering Voice over Internet Protocol -- or VoIP -- services said this week that Apple now allows their applications to work on the iPhone. VoIP calling has been available on the iPhone, but only over WiFi connections, which don't have the range of 3G cellular networks.
